The Sad State of White Party Palm Springs 2009
Posted by: | Comments#1 Gay Pride Event appeared to have low turnout
PALM SPRINGS, CA – The White Party is one of the most anticipated gay pride events in southern california. Palm Springs California hosts the annual White Party at the Wyndham Hotel, which was also the partial setting for the gay interest film, “Circuit. There are white parties in major cities, a group of circuit parties of GLBT interest. I arrived there on Saturday night driving there from San Diego, CA as soon as I got into town I noticed Palm canyon Drive, the main street downtown was DEAD… this was my first white party event and I expected Palm Springs to be alive with hootering and hollaring kind of like a spring break event. Barely anybody was out. I knew this was not good news. I went with a buddy of mine who’s a Marine, we checked into our hotel and went out to the bars and clubs. We stopped at a palm springs bondage
sex shop and a leather bar that looked more like a public health clinic waiting room. We ended up at Hunter’s, which I have no complaints about. It was a good mixture of guys from all over, some good looking some not but it did not disappoint. They had lesbian bouncers working door, and the staff was professional and polite. We danced a little — we’re not much into it — drank out drinks and were invited to several after events, but all included sex with undesirable drunk people so we passed and decided to shoot over to the Wyndham Hotel grounds and there we started talking to people in the hotel lobby were they had oversized couches and a living room style lobby, security kept a close eye on party goers but did not in the least impede or bother any of us, and maintained a very professional appearance and demeanor. There we talked to several different people that complained that this year seemed to have a low turn out. They stated that the lobby should have been packed, but it was just us 7 guys there this time. Knowing I’d have to write a story for Boys for Breakfast my friend and I decided to walk around the halls to get a “feel” for the place… We walked down all halls of the 4-5 floors and there were no room parties, action was dead!
We returned to our room at 5:30 am and promptly took our clothes off and had our own party.. haha Marines are HOT, gay ones are usually pretty wild! We woke up around 10, went for another round and showered and decided to check out and go get Easter Sunday Brunch somewhere… he said we didn’t have to do anything fancy but since I was paying I wanted to go somewhere nice especially since I was with somebody so hot and nice. We asked the hotel clerks where the best places would be and we all decided the Wyndham Hotel again was best for brunch activities. I called Wyndham to ask them what they were serving and the obviously-gay gentlemen on the other side of the phone answered my questions in a professional manner and ended the call with, “You should come have brunch and check out the boys!”. My Marine buddy and I laughed as we again drove to the Wyndham Hotel and ate their brunch which was the BEST breaking-buffet I ever had in my life, and trust me I’ve been around! The hard crispy shim’s of bacon you sometimes get Denny’s or other breakfast places were thick, perfectly cooked, not hard and soooo yummy! They had plenty of good and the service was excellent too! They placed us in my opinion, the best pool-side table in the entire place. It ended up only being $29.95 for the both of us and an $8.00 tip. As we drove out of town we ended our trip with a few hours at the top of Mt. San Jacinto hiking the trails via the Palm Springs Arial TramWay. It was pretty romantic and my buddy enjoyed it a lot. While there we again enjoyed another late lunch. We were aloft the mountain for a few hours, and came down around 3:30 or 4:00 PM and headed home. See you guys next year!
Campus Thursdays at Splash
Posted by: | CommentsNEW YORK CITY, NY – For those seeking relief from the demands of work, a Thursday night is the perfect night to get an early start on ringing in the weekend. Thursday nights at Splash Bar in New York City (more specifically Chelsea, Manhattan’s popular “gay neighborhood”) are a great way to kick-off the weekend… or not.
Actually, it really depends on what you’re in the mood for. Splash may not be for everyone. It’s a fun place to check out, maybe take advantage of the $3 Long Island Iced Teas specials which last up until midnight, but a majority of the time is spent in a sort of “stand-offish” dance floor with several guys either riding solo because they’re too good to talk to other guys, or the occasional group of friends that don’t stray away from the group in fear that the “tramp” label will be bestowed upon them just by talking to a new boy (and it also depends on your friends – some may call you a tramp while others, stud). Then of course there are the older gentlemen in the club which either get no attention or tons of attention from those seeking a little extra $$ on the side. Personally, I haven’t had one single good encounter with the older gentlemen. I once had a 50-something year old come up in between my friend and I, as we were having a conversation, and proceeded to lay his cell phone down on the table between us – open up his picture application folder on his phone, and flip through pictures of his penis (which weren’t even flattering), mind you – this man hadn’t introduced himself or anything. Afterwards, he offered to rim my friend in the bathroom, my friend agreed and requested that he go first and he would meet him there – all the while, it was our cue to run! Needless to say, we left early that night.
But overall, if you’re looking for some well-built go-go boys dancing around, get some cheap drinks in the city, and dance a bit – Splash Bar is decent. I would highly recommend taking a friend, that way you have someone to be your “wingman” (or wing-girl, depends on if you can convince a girl to go). It’s fun for a bit, but there are several other lounges in the area that tend to be better alternatives to the dance club scene, in my opinion. Some of my favorites are Vlada, The Ritz, G-Lounge, and Barracuda.
So tonight is Splash’s popular Campus Thursday night where they offer live performances, drink specials, no cover (until a certain time and with a flyer, text invite, or name on guess list), 2 floors/ 2 DJ’s, and plenty of good-looking dancers. The first floor plays House/Pop, the downstairs floor plays Hip-Hop.
Splash Bar is located on 50 W 17th St. in between 5th and 6th Avenue in lower Manhattan. For more information, check out their website.
